The EGR system operates by taking some of the exhaust gases and sends it back into the motor. The hot exhaust gases are cooled by your engine cooling system. The problem is that the coolant is heated up by trying to cool the hot exhaust. This makes your engine operate at a higher temperature. By eliminating the EGR and Cooler you are sending all your exhaust gases thru the turbo and your coolant is now able to do the job it was intended for, cooling the engine. Removing the EGR valve eliminates the chance of any blockages in the system. Removing the EGR valve may set off a check engine light. You will need to run a tuner to turn off the EGR system to eliminate the code/light.

    My customer has a construction business and has several trucks, I'm pretty sure the 2006 f350 needs head gaskets and egr delete....looks to me the cab off method is best...what do you think? this truck is going to stay stock, will a new OE oil cooler be sufficient? we will be sourcing parts soon, please advise on a total parts list to perform a head gasket procedure, I'm a Master Tech with a home shop and lift. Thanks, RC

  • With the cab off would give you more room to work with replacing the head gaskets. Some people replace them without lifting the cab it just takes more time and everyone knows time is money. If you plan on doing head studs lifting the cab would be a necessity. An OEM oil cooler will be fine. We offer OEM oil coolers with some of our EGR delete kits. Head studs would be a good idea to help prevent blowing another head gasket especially if the truck is used to tow with and sometimes under a heavy load.
